Nothing is permanent except change. It is very natural that with time and circumstances, the values, thought process, social structure and cultural norms of society also changes. Today’s competitive and hectic life style has brought about a revolution in people’s thinking which has led to change in social structure from root level. Our Indian Culture of joint family is diminishing and nuclear family concept has become common.

Young generation is moving all over the world for better job opportunity and better life. Even if they wish, can’t have the luxury to live with the parents in native. Parents cannot keep moving with the kids. And sometime they can’t get along due to generation gap in their thinking. This leads to formation of nuclear families. OLD AGE has its own challenges. The energy level plummets, sickness visits more often than friends!! And when, one partner dies, the life becomes even more difficult for the remaining partner.

In such times, it is society’s duty, not just their children’s, to fulfill the elders’ day to day needs with due respect and provide them happy and peaceful final years. All changes are not bad – it hurts only when we are incapable of handling it. Old Age home are the need of today’s society and only those societies that can handle the needs of changing times and provide solution, will prosper.

Preface

Visionary people can foresee the needs of tomorrow and start building the solution for it today. One such visionary and a person with foresight, Shri Meghji Pethraj Shah, who is also known for his generous heart and innumerable charitable work towards humanity and betterment of mankind, had recognized the need of an Old Age home, was a pioneer in establishing the first Old Age Home in Jamnagar in 1968. With the help of 6000 Sq.Yard [54000 sq.ft.] of land from Govt. of Gujarat and financial aid from Jamnagar Municipality, Shri. M. P. Shah Municipal Vruddhashram came into existence where, Shri M. P. Shah and family donated a generous amount of fund towards realization of this project.

This home for the senior citizen was run by few reputed citizens of Jamnagar who took interest in running the place and helped it flourish with their heart and soul.

On November 22nd 2015, (Dev Diwali), the organization was handed over to the new generation. This new group of people undertook the first aid work of repairing the building and providing basic needs for the residents. However, as you know, this can’t be a onetime thing. This needs continuous improvement and maintenance.

Currently the building is dilapidated. So, we have undertaken the project to construct a new building with better facilities. The aim is to provide a home like place where single person or a couple can live with security, comfort and dignity, at no charge, without any discrimination based on religion, cast or creed.
